Credits
Credits in Mantle provide flexible ways to compensate customers or encourage app usage. Whether you’re offering app-specific credits or usage-based credits, Mantle makes it easy to manage and track these value-adds for your customers.
Understanding credits
Mantle offers two types of credits:
App credits: Applied against subscription charges, useful for refunds or customer retention
Usage credits: Applied against usage-based charges, perfect for trials or compensating for service issues
Each type serves different purposes and can be strategically used to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
App credits
App credits provide a way to credit customers for subscription charges. Unlike usage credits which apply to metered billing, app credits work directly with subscription fees. They’re ideal for:
Providing partial refunds
Compensating for service interruptions
Offering goodwill credits for customer retention
Creating promotional incentives
Managing billing adjustments
Creating app credits
To issue an app credit:
Navigate to the customer’s profile

Select the app from the dropdown menu
Choose the currency and enter the credit amount
Add a note explaining the reason for the credit (this will only be visible to you and Shopify support)

Click Issue app credits to apply the credit
The credit will automatically apply to the customer’s next app charges.
Usage credits
Usage credits offset future usage charges and can create flexible trial or promotional periods. They’re particularly effective for:
Running limited-time trials of usage features
Compensating customers for service issues
Creating promotional periods for usage-based features
Testing new usage-based pricing models
